Wedding in Cadaqués (Costa Brava) with views of the beach

This wedding in Cadaqués (Costa Brava, Spain) in a rented house in front of the beach and with views of the Mediterranean Sea, in the middle of summer, was a great example of how documentary wedding photography helps to capture the spontaneity and emotions of the day. It was an informal wedding where the couple wanted to celebrate it in their way.

The ceremony took place in front of the Town Hall of Cadaqués, but not inside, which is where weddings usually take place, but in the small square with views of the Mediterranean Sea just in front of the Town Hall. Surrounded by family and close friends, the bride and groom wanted to have an intimate and casual day. Their wedding was a celebration without protocols, where the most important thing was to enjoy the moment, the good weather, the views of the sea and the beach and specially, the company.

After the ceremony, we went for a walk through the narrow streets of Cadaqués. Then we continued along the promenade, with its views of the beach and the tiny fishing boats. Tourists kept congratulating the bride and groom and they, relaxed and happy, shared laughs and hugs with their guests while enjoying the Mediterranean atmosphere.

One of the best moments was when we stopped at a bar they had booked, Set Cadaqués bar. A small bar right in front of the beach where they had reserved the terrace and the inside for cocktails. It was a moment to simply enjoy, and, for me as a photographer, an opportunity to photograph a different and very informal wedding.

The celebration continued in a rented house in Cadaqués, a place with spectacular views of the sea and the town. From there, we spent the rest of the afternoon and evening enjoying the views, the sun, the fresh air and relaxed conversation with all the guests.

One of the most special aspects of this wedding was the groom’s passion for analog and film photography. From the beginning, he was clear that he wanted much of the reportage to be done in this format, and it was a pleasure for me to accompany them since I really enjoy shooting with film cameras. Film and analog photography has a unique charm: every shot counts, every image has texture and depth. These analog photographs added an extra layer of authenticity and nostalgia to the shoot, and the result couldn’t have been more special. The groom also brought along his large format 8×10 film camera, which we used to take some shots from the terrace.

My approach as a documentary photographer has always been to tell stories and this wedding in Cadaqués allowed me to do it the way I like: mixing documentary style with film photography. The emotions of that day remained for the memories of the bride and groom. And always respecting the relaxed and authentic style that the bride and groom wanted. Without forcing poses or awkward moments.

Once you have seen this wedding, if you want to enjoy a really different and stylish wedding, I recommend you to take a look at this Wedding in l’Empordà inspired by Dali and the Kennedys.
