Analog Film Wedding at Molí de la Torre, Catalonia

Molí de la Torre, a historic wedding venue near Figueres

Molí de la Torre is one of the most interesting wedding venues in Girona, in the Empordà area, just a short drive from Figueres (Catalonia, Spain). It offers plenty of outdoor space, large gardens and that feeling of being somewhere slightly timeless, where everything slows down a bit. This wedding took place on a summer night and was photographed entirely on analog / film. The couple gave me full creative freedom and trusted my documentary approach. There was no shot list and no expectations to follow a specific structure. The idea was simply to let the day unfold naturally and focus on what was actually happening, moment by moment. Molí de la Torre is a neoclassical estate restored in 1853, located in the municipality of El Far d’Empordà (Catalonia). It’s a venue with a strong sense of history, surrounded by open landscape and with an architectural presence that feels very different from most wedding venues I’ve worked at over the years. This area is closely connected to the creative universe of Salvador Dalí, and Molí de la Torre is often described as a place of inspiration linked to that artistic heritage. All of this gives the venue a very distinct character, unlike many other estates in the region.

Analog / film wedding photography

The entire wedding was photographed on film. I worked with a Leica M6, a Contax G2 and a medium format Hasselblad, using professional film stocks such as Kodak Portra, known for their natural colors and soft tonal range. Shooting on film works especially well when there is creative freedom. It naturally slows the pace, makes you more aware of the light and keeps the focus on what really matters. Trust was a key part of this day. There were no mandatory shots or forced moments, which allowed me to document the wedding exactly as it was, paying attention to gestures, conversations, quiet in-between moments and the overall atmosphere of the venue throughout the day.

A summer wedding in Spain with an outdoor dinner by candlelight

The bride wore a beautiful Teresa Helbig wedding dress, elegant, effortless and perfectly in tune with the organic feel of the wedding and the venue. The ceremony took place outdoors, in one of the venue’s courtyards. It was simple and relaxed, with colorful floral arrangements and white fabrics that added texture and softness to the stone surroundings. The aperitif was held in one of Molí de la Torre’s large gardens, just as the light started to drop. A live band played during this part of the day, creating a fun and lively atmosphere where people couldn’t stop dancing. Dinner was served outdoors, lit by small string lights and lots of candles, creating a warm and welcoming mood. Even though it wasn’t a particularly small wedding, the candlelight helped keep the atmosphere intimate. The tables were decorated with bright, cheerful flowers, following the same natural and uncomplicated style of the rest of the day. The celebration continued well into the night, making the most of the summer weather and the outdoor spaces. Molí de la Torre works especially well for summer weddings because everything happens outside, with the red brick façade of the building contrasting beautifully with the green gardens. It’s a venue that allows you to enjoy the full day, from midday light all the way into the night.
