Film Wedding Photographer in Spain

I’m Sara Lázaro, a film and documentary wedding photographer based in Barcelona and working across Spain since 2007. From intimate celebrations on the Costa Brava to sun-drenched weddings in Andalusia, island ceremonies in Mallorca and Menorca and destination gatherings planned from the other side of the world. Spain is the country I know best, and it shows in the photographs.

Film Photography in Spain

Spain has a quality of light that is almost impossible to replicate anywhere else. The way it falls in the late afternoon, the warmth it gives to stone walls and open landscapes, the contrast between shade and brightness in Mediterranean courtyards, all of this translates beautifully to film.

I shoot on 35mm and medium format film, combined with digital when the day calls for it. Film forces a certain intentionality. You can’t spray and pray, you wait, you read the light, you anticipate. The result is images with grain, depth and a timeless quality that feels right at home in the Spanish landscape.

Where I Work in Spain

I’m based in Barcelona but travel throughout Spain for weddings. Some of the places I work most frequently:

Barcelona: my home city, where I’ve been photographing weddings for nearly two decades.

Mallorca: the island’s landscapes and venues make it one of my favourite places to shoot on film.

Menorca: quieter, wilder and endlessly photogenic.

Andalusia: Cádiz, Vejer de la Frontera, the light of the south. Some of my most loved film work has happened here.

Costa Brava: rugged coastline, old stone masías, the Empordà light. A place I return to again and again.

For Couples Planning from Abroad

A significant part of my work comes from couples based in the US,
the UK and elsewhere in Europe or even Australia who are planning a destination wedding
in Spain. I’m used to working with international couples: the planning
process, the logistics, the time zones.

If you’re looking for a film wedding photographer in Spain who understands
both the country and what it means to plan a wedding from far away,
I’d love to hear from you.

Got some questions?

Do you travel throughout all of Spain?

Yes. I’m based in Barcelona but travel regularly for weddings across Spain: from the Balearic Islands to Andalusia, the Costa Brava and beyond. Travel costs are discussed individually depending on the location.

How far in advance should we book?

Most couples book between 12 and 18 months in advance, especially for
peak season dates in spring and autumn. If your date is sooner, it’s
always worth reaching out. I occasionally have availability for
last-minute bookings.

What locations in Spain do you cover?

I work most frequently in Barcelona, Mallorca, Menorca, the Costa Brava
and Andalusia. Particularly Sevilla, Cadiz and Vejer de la Frontera. I also
photograph weddings in the South of France for couples planning
cross-border celebrations.

Can we have both film and digital coverage for our wedding?

Yes, and it’s actually how I work most of the time. A hybrid approach gives you the timeless, organic quality of film for the key moments alongside the reliability and flexibility of digital throughout the day. We can talk about the balance that makes most sense for your wedding during our first conversation.

What makes film photography particularly suited to weddings in Spain?

Spain’s light is extraordinary, especially in the late afternoon, when
it turns golden and warm. The grain, the color rendering, the slight
imperfection of analog photography feels completely at home in Spanish
landscapes, whether you’re getting married by the Mediterranean, in an
Andalusian cortijo or on a hillside in the Balearic Islands.

Do you work with non-Spanish speaking couples?

Absolutely. In fact, most of my destination wedding clients are
international couples who don’t speak Spanish at all. I’m fully
fluent in English and conduct all consultations, contracts and
communication in English. If you’re planning a wedding in Spain
from the US, the UK or anywhere else in the world, the language
barrier won’t be an issue at any point in the process.
