Film & Documentary Wedding in Mallorca, Son Marroig (Spain)

A documentary film wedding in Mallorca

This was one of those weddings that stays with me as a photographer.
Because of the place, the cliffs on the wild west coast of Mallorca, at Son Marroig and also because of the people I had the chance to photograph: Rels B and Nicole. It was an intimate, calm and very intentional wedding. One of those days where no one is in a rush and everything unfolds naturally. I was hired to document the day, mostly on film photography and honestly, it felt like a gift.

Son Marroig, one of the most beautiful wedding locations in Mallorca

Son Marroig is located on the west coast of Mallorca (Balearic Islands, Spain), between Valldemossa and Deià, right on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It’s one of those places that doesn’t need much explanation: the landscape speaks for itself. The marble temple, the sea in the background, the feeling of being right at the edge of the island… it’s a truly special location. Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful places in Mallorca for a wedding, especially if you’re looking for amazing views, Mediterranean light and that sense of openness you only get near the sea.

Film photography and a documentary approach

I was hired mainly to photograph the wedding on film / analog, something I value more and more with every project as a photographer. For this day, I worked with a Leica, a Contax and a small point-and-shoot camera for the more spontaneous, playful moments. I shot mostly on Kodak Portra, the film stock I trust the most and have worked with for years. The approach was completely documentary. Observing, anticipating, letting things happen. No directing, no staging, just being present and telling the story as it unfolded. Film photography fit perfectly with the rhythm of the day and with the way they wanted to remember their wedding.

A spring mediterranean wedding with incredible light

The wedding took place in spring, and we were lucky to have an absolutely beautiful day. Sunshine, perfect temperatures and soft light from start to finish. During the ceremony, the couple was surrounded by golden evening light and breathtaking views over the Mediterranean sea. Everything moved slowly, without stress, surrounded only by close family and friends. At the same time, the day felt very alive, you could feel how much Rels B and Nicole were enjoying every moment. That kind of atmosphere changes everything. The gestures, the conversations, the hugs. And for documentary photography, it makes all the difference.

Rels B and Nicole: an intimate and personal wedding

This was the wedding of Rels B and Nicole. Rels B is a very well-known artist, but on that day, none of that mattered. What unfolded was a simple, intimate and deeply personal wedding. There were no big productions or unnecessary elements. Just real moments, meaningful connections and a celebration designed for them, not for anyone else. I felt incredibly lucky to be part of this wedding. Because of the location, the light, the calm way everything was experienced and, above all, the trust they placed in me to document it mostly on film. Weddings like this are the reason I do what I do, and why I continue to choose a documentary approach and film photography: honest, intentional and without too many layers in between.
