boda la pedrera

It was a winter evening and I was photographing a wedding at El Cafè de la Pedrera, one of the most emblematic restaurants of modernism in Barcelona. A work of Gaudí and located in the same building as Casa Milà, also known as La Pedrera. It was a cold night and we were enjoying a quiet and intimate wedding and I remember looking through the huge windows of the cafeteria and seeing how people were strolling quietly along Paseo de Gracia.

We were in the heart of Barcelona, just enjoying the moment and being there, taking pictures of that couple in a place with so much history, made me feel very grateful and lucky. Thanks to this work I have been able to enjoy such beautiful and exclusive spaces like this one.

Ana and Isma are from Barcelona. They wanted to celebrate an intimate urban wedding taking advantage of the charms of Barcelona. They didn’t want to celebrate their wedding in a farmhouse in a summer month, but they decided to get married in the middle of winter: a cold February afternoon. Coats, scarves, leather jackets and lots of hugs to warm up. She in a beautiful and simple wedding dress by L´Avetis and he in a Hugo Boss suit.

It all started at the Saló de Cent. I’ve already been lucky enough to shoot more weddings in this impressive gothic style hall of the Barcelona City Hall -you can see other weddings here-. And every time I photograph a wedding there, I never cease to be amazed by this majestic and monumental diaphanous room. On this occasion, it was a very intimate wedding. They only wanted to be with their closest family and friends and for everything to be as relaxed as possible. Avoiding protocols and strict timings. They just wanted to enjoy and be with their loved ones.

They were also clear that they wanted a photo shoot through the streets of the Gothic Quarter at night. Narrow and dark streets illuminated only by some street lamps that gave an intimate atmosphere and provided that urban vibe that they wanted in their photographs. They also wanted a part of the session in the subway, so we decided to take one to get to the Cafè de la Pedrera.

The rest ends where I started this text: surrounded by their loved ones in a magical place of modernism. And that’s the word that comes to my mind when I think of their wedding: magic adorned with modernist ceilings on a cold winter afternoon.
